Projects

Operation Christmas Child

Every year, we take part in Operation Christmas Child, a project run by international relief organisation, Samaritan’s Purse. Members of the congregation fill shoeboxes with toys for distribution to needy kids overseas. There is huge enthusiasm for this project throughout the congregation and groups connected with the church and the number of boxes donated grows every year. Covering an empty shoebox with wrapping paper is a challenge for some! But everyone who takes part gets immense pleasure from this practical way of showing the love of Christ at Christmas.

Food Bank

We collect food for distribution through the Karis Neighbour Scheme. There is an increasing number of people in our local community who cannot afford to eat well, let alone pay their bills. We aim to collect as much tinned and imperishable food products as we can and pass it on to those in the most need, via Karis.

Please support us generously in this and if you can, remember to buy extra when you do your regular shopping. Leave your contributions in the straw box at the back of church. Thank you!

Birmingham Churches Night Shelter

Each January and February, for six weeks, we take part in the “roving shelter” model devised by Housing Justice to host a shelter for homeless people on Tuesday nights. This involves providing hospitality through a hot meal, a bed for the night, breakfast and friendship for ten men. The guests arrive between 7.00pm and 8.00pm and leave the next morning between 8.00am and 9.00am.

We have had no shortage of volunteers to set up the shelter at The Ark, provide and serve evening meals, stay overnight, cook breakfast, close down the shelter and wash bedding and towels ready for the next week.

Helpers enjoy the experience and feel that they have participated in something worthwhile. We look forward to welcoming more to volunteer each year, when the shelter is available from mid-January for six weeks to provide warmth and safety during the coldest part of the year.
